We are back with another Volunteer Spotlight!
This month, we’re shining the light on our Peninsula SHRM Chapter President, Nicquita Scott, SHRM-SCP.
Volunteer Leader role: Chapter President, Peninsula SHRM
Nicquita has been on the Peninsula SHRM board for five years, previously holding the Secretary and President-Elect roles before moving to President in 2025. She has worked in Human Resources for the past seven years, following a career change from banking, and currently serves as the Human Resources Manager for the City of Hampton.
If there is a piece of advice Nicquita would offer for someone trying to enter the HR field, it is to join a local SHRM chapter to connect with HR professionals and stay updated on the latest trends in the field. She also encourages fellow HR professionals to build meaningful relationships, seek out a mentor, and leverage your transferable skills to make your mark in HR. The ability to give back to her community was instrumental in Nicquita’s own career journey.
She credits joining PenSHRM for allowing her to build connections, gain confidence, and elevate her career. She joined the chapter when she was trying to enter the HR field, and the connections she made not only opened doors, but also gave her the confidence she needed to elevate her career in HR. Nicquita says being a part of the SHRM network has empowered her to contribute meaningfully to her organizations. And now, as a volunteer leader, she is driven to create those same opportunities for others.
Outside of work, Nicquita enjoys making memories with her family and close friends, planning marriage ministry events and fellowships with her church family, trying out new restaurants, and traveling, making frequent trips to Chicago and Florida to visit family. When possible, she and her husband enjoy taking cruises or traveling to island destinations.
We are so grateful to have Nicquita on our volunteer leadership team and at the helm of her chapter in 2025. Her dedication to making a positive difference in her community is one of the reasons we know she will do great in her new role. Look for her at Peninsula SHRM chapter events and our annual conference.
