HR Virginia is extremely proud of and grateful for our amazing volunteer leaders. As such, in 2025 we will share volunteer spotlights so our Virginia SHRM members and HR professionals can get to know our volunteer leaders better.
First up – Ashley McGlawn, SHRM-SCP!
Volunteer Leader role: District Director, Northern District
Ashley has been a dedicated volunteer leader on the HR Virginia State Council for 6 years, and she has worked in the field of Human Resources for 17 years. Currently, Ashley serves as an HR leader with the Greater Washington Community Foundation. With Virginia SHRM, she has served as Lead District Director, District Director (Northern and Central districts,) and she is a repeat volunteer on Annual conference committee. Ashley is currently a member of Prince William SHRM, formerly with Fredericksburg SHRM, and has held the roles of President, President-Elect, and Social Media chair within her chapters.
Service runs deep in Ashley’s veins! Outside of SHRM, also enjoys attending and serving at her local church, spending time with family and friends, and singing. She loves to invest in her community and the betterment & development of others. She credits some wonderful leaders who took time to invest in her, and she wants to do the same for others.
If there is a piece of advice Ashley would offer for someone trying to enter the HR field, it is to learn how to handle and facilitate difficult conversations early and ensure you have planned self-care and someone in the HR field that you can also lean on, especially in your own industry. HR professionals spend a great deal of energy supporting others, so it’s important to build support systems for ourselves as well!
We are so grateful to have Ashley on our volunteer leadership team. Her calm, friendly, and supportive demeanor make her a valuable asset to the team. Look for her at Prince William chapter events and our annual conference.
