HR Virginia was proud to host the annual Student Case Competition at the VCU School of Business in Richmond, Virginia, on April 21, 2024.

In the Case Competition, student SHRM chapters are tasked with presenting a topic that is current, on trend, and strategically relevant to Human Resources. The presentation must demonstrate an understanding of the HR relevance of the topic to strategic goals of organizations today. Teams of two to four students have 15 minutes to present their cases, either virtually or in-person, to a panel of judges made up of experienced Human Resources professionals.

Each year, our judges are impressed with the topics and presentation skills demonstrated by these emerging HR professionals. The 2024 competition included teams from three universities: James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Liberty University in Lynchburg, and Frostburg State University in neighboring Maryland.

AND THE WINNER IS…..

Frostburg State University! The team presented a strong case about Hidden Disabilities in the Workplace and they won the top prize of $500 for their chapter. In addition, the team will receive full registration for the 2025 State Conference.

JMU’s presentation about the impact of overtime on organizations took second place and earned them $250 for their chapter. Liberty University presented virtually about the digital transformation of the HR and business industry, and they earned third place.
